Social Networking for HIV Positive Women
JANE is a monthly gathering of women wishing to meet other positive women outside an agency or institutional setting to exchange information on health and wellness resources, family, personal issues or current events.
Social support and friendship with other women who are HIV positive outside of a clinical setting can build a foundation of trust and support for female friends who are going through similar things in their lives, such as coping with; family, coworkers, relationships, dating and striving for wellness.
Gathering over coffee at a café, a picnic at the beach, a walk through Stanley Park, a trip to an art gallery, a pot luck meal at each other’s homes, all qualify as a JANE event.
An upbeat exchange of new introductions, coping strategies, plans to get together for a film, suggested support groups, laughter and discussing future plans filled the bill at the first JANE meeting with eight in attendance.
